In my last blog post, I gave an overview to the principles of building an audience and becoming a subject matter expert. Today, I want to share with you authors out there a unique tool that can help you do this and save precious writing time.

I don’t know about you but I often times feel overwhelmed and inundated by all of the social media outlets, tools and essentially the entire conversation prism. Yet, this is one tool I wish I would have found sooner.

The Tool: Paper.li (www.paper.li.com)

it is your new best friend:

Are you writing a story about a cattle dog and want to gather all of the information you can about them in one paper or newsletter? Or are you following paranormal literature and would like an electronic paper about that genre in one place? Paper.li can help. Paper.li processes social media posts and extracts articles into one published newsletter then places it at your fingertips. This includes over 250 social media posts per day and 25 million articles.

How it works:

  • Choose the news sources you want Paper.li to pull from (Facebook, Twitter, Google +, RSS Feeds, YouTube…etc.), prioritize them and add filters for the type of content you desire.
  • Choose the frequency in which it is published. Do you want it daily, weekly…etc.?
  • Create a title for your paper and customize it with colors, fonts, and backgrounds of your choice.
  • Add an editor’s note and share with readers what your paper is about. For example: “The Cattle Dog press is an opportunity to celebrate the uniqueness of Australian shepherds and their quirky personalities. Want to keep up with my newest book Celebrate Charlie, the telling of a family in the outback and the love of their cattle dog…visit www.com ”.
  • Paper.li will auto generate the content and will auto tweet your customized paper to your twitter followers when it is released. The tweet will include a link to your customized paper as well as a link to three twitter accounts that appear as content sources in that edition. What this means is that each time you publish a newsletter, at least three people will receive a note that you have mentioned them. It’s ultimately a quick and easy way to generate a larger network!
  • Embed your newsletter into your website or blog. Yup…this too is possible!
  • Greatest benefits: It’s FREE, it writes itself, it is customizable, it helps you grow your brand and drive traffic to your website or blog and it allows you to access statistics on who is reading your paper.

Need additional proof: Dan Zarella, The Social Media Scientist’s research demonstrated that links which include the words “daily is out” (the default wording/copy that Paper.li uses when publishing an edition) get 17 times more clicks than those without.

The concept may seem hard to grasp but give it a try. Once you do, you will find you love the support in generating great content and will appreciate your fast growing audience.
